Financial Control Manager

The Role

We are recruiting a Financial Control Manager to lead the day-to-day financial control function for a rapidly growing professional services business operating in a regulated environment. This role will manage and develop a team of four and will be responsible for ensuring robust financial controls, accurate and timely reporting, and strong compliance across the business.

You will lead the month-end close, oversee VAT and payroll controls, act as the key point of contact for external auditors, and drive continuous improvement across financial systems and processes.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead the month-end close process, ensuring accuracy and adherence to deadlines
- Own balance sheet controls and reconciliations across all entities
- Manage VAT returns, PAYE/NI processes, and related statutory reporting
- Act as the primary point of contact for external audits
- Manage, mentor, and develop a team of finance professionals
- Partner with stakeholders across the business to provide financial insight and guidance
- Maintain and enhance financial systems (Sage Intacct), controls, and reporting
- Support international entities and review international management accounts
- Lead and contribute to finance projects focused on improving controls, efficiency, and compliance

About You

- Fully qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA or equivalent)
- Strong experience in financial and management accounting
- Proven experience managing month-end and external audits
- Confident people manager with experience developing teams
- Strong Excel skills and experience using Sage or similar ERP systems
- Detail-oriented with a ‘right first time’ mindset
- Comfortable working to tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Pragmatic, professional, and confident when working with senior stakeholders
