A Commercial Finance Director with outstanding leadership skills is required for a performance driving role with the UK’s industry leader in its sector.

The business is an acquisitive multi-site business product distributor with a number of sub-divisions, working across a 100+ depot network with forecast divisional EBIT c£40m and a workforce of c2000 staff.

Collaborating closely with the Managing Director and the wider leadership team, the role’s purpose is to develop and implement strategy focused on doubling profit while at the same time halving carbon. This will require innovative approaches to driving productivity and efficiency and strategic M&A. As such the role requires a change driving commercially astute leader.

The Role

Reporting to the Group CFO and working closely with the Divisional Managing Director, the role's key responsibilities are:

  • Commercial: Full ownership of the division’s P&L, Budget and 3 Year Planning Cycle
  • Leadership: Leadership of the financial support function (Controllership/Governance/Compliance/FP&A/M&A) across all 3 divisions of the business; Facilitate a high performance culture within the Finance team;
  • Business Partnering: Leading a team of Finance Business Partners, drive a culture of continuous improvement and commercial awareness throughout the business; provide robust and appropriate financial support and challenge to ensure the business hits its targets;
  • Working Capital Management: Ensure that working capital levels are optimised and delivered in line with forecasts and budgets – with particular focus on stock;
  • M&A and Capital Investment opportunities: Support in identifying potential targets for capital deployment and acquisition, produce models to appraise financial viability and lead Finance DD and integration workstreams.

The Candidate

This exciting multi-faceted role requires a confident and driven experienced Finance Director with the following attributes:

  • Commercially oriented qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/ACMA) with excellent relationship building and communication skills;
  • A hands on, pragmatic, analytical, persuasive character, who enjoys working within a highly motivated team, and who gets things done;
  • Exposure to M&A / Due diligence would be useful;
  • Must have experience in a “product” business which carries stock.
